Match of the Day:
Rhino vs Christopher Daniels
ECW Hostile City Showdown
June 26th, 1999
Long before Daniels and Rhino were squaring off in TNA, a young Christopher Daniels took on Rhino in his ECW debut at Hostile City Showdown. Considering the ECW fans are known to be somewhat rabid, you almost get nervous seeing Daniels debut in the company. However, the fans took to him with adoration as Daniels put his life on the line against the man-beast. Surprisingly, there’s a lot of high flying in this match from both wrestlers. You also see some interference from Steve Corino. It rains ROH all over this match.
Following the match, you see a quickie between Rhino and Spike Dudley, which would transcend companies in 2001 as both men interfered WrestleMania 17’s WWE Tag Team Championship match.
Match Of The Day:
AJ Styles(c)vs. Samoa Joe vs. Christopher Daniels
Three-Way Match For The TNA World Heavyweight Championship
TNA Turning Point
November 15th, 2009
You ever spent the majority of your time as a wrestling fan hating a guy - okay, disliking a guy - for some reason you can’t define, but man dammit you know you just really don’t like that guy? That’s me and AJ Styles. I have no good reason to dislike AJ, but for a long time I was full of inexplicable annoyance for the guy.
Recently, though, after seeing some matches I missed in the time I took off from watching/not paying attention to TNA, I’ve warmed up (slightly) to the idea that AJ Styles might not suck as much as I’ve convinced myself he does. So I present this match in the way of an apology to all those AJ Styles fans out there.
World Tag Team Champions of…King Of Trios? [9/15/2012]
As a couple of you (read: everyone I’m friends with that cares) might know, I was lucky enough to attend the 2012 King Of Trios in Easton, PA. I’m not too familiar with how that event usually works, besides that there’s great wrestling and the Fan Conclave, so I was completely floored when TNA’s then-tag champs, Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian - AKA World Tag Team Champions Of The World - arrived unannounced.
To quote my friend Adam who attended with me, “The minute they showed up and you knew for sure it was them, you followed them around like a hungry cartoon character smelling a pie.” This might or might not be absolute truth, but really, it’s Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian; how could anyone NOT react that way?
Promo of the Day:
Christopher Daniels Leaves Ring of Honor
ROH Good Times, Great Memories
April 28th, 2007
Gearing up to make the announcement that ROH would soon air PPVs, many TNA contracted talent knew they would be pulled from any future ROH events. Daniels made the most of it by turning on the Chicago crowd for his involvement in TNA and publicly quitting.
One of the best promos I’ve seen live and maybe the best of Daniels’ career.
Match of the Day:
Christopher Daniels vs AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe
For the TNA X-Division Championship
TNA Unbreakable
September 11th, 2005
A good show that had seen Sabu take on the monster Abyss in a No DQ match, Austin Aries face stablemate Roderick Strong, and Raven defend his NWA World Heavyweight Championship against the War Machine Rhino in a Raven’s Rules match. The entire card, however, has been eclipsed by the main event Triple Threat Match that, to this day, is the only TNA match to receive 5 stars from Dave Meltzer.
I had forgotten how incredible this match was.
He’s hot!
He’s spicy!
The Curry Man was in TNA?
I have zero knowledge of what was going on in that company before 2009. I should really get onto fixing that.
