Match of the Day:
Shelton Benjamin vs Kurt Angle
WWE Monday Night Raw
August 22nd, 2005
It’s a shame what mediocrity Shelton Benjamin has drifted to after being such a midcard delight during this era. It’s not often you think someone has a match won with a Samoan Drop. Stay tuned after the match for a fun bit of Kurt Angle coronation.
Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies Is A Thing And I Am Unsure What To Think
Yep. Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies is a thing.
Chris Benoit Delivers a Flying Headbutt to Kurt Angle - WWF RAW is WAR [6/11/2001]
Fantastic in-cage shot of a flyin’ Benoit in a match where both grapplers delivered a grand total of one-hundred and eighty-seven German Suplexes combined. Seriously, if you like German Suplexes, then this is the match for you (you’ll love the insane top-of-the-cage one).
This particular shot is a bit misleading as it appears to be Benoit in the middle of his signature top-turnbuckle Swandive Headbutt. In reality, “The Rabid Wolverine” got to the very top of the steel cage and instead of deciding to win the match by climbing out (a very pissed off Stone Cold was waiting for him armed with a steel chair), Benoit turned to deliver a beautiful Swandive Headbutt directly onto the heart of Kurt Angle.
IIRC, Chris Benoit did a similar spot in WCW, where he did the exact same headbutt from the top of the cage onto a steel chair placed on the skull of Jeff Jarrett. As you can imagine, that moment was just as insane as this spot as Benoit immediately turned to reveal a swollen eye socket afterward.

Match Of The Day:
Kurt Angle(c) vs. Undertaker
WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match
No Way Out
February 19th, 2006
All I remember clearly about this match is that Angle had beaten Henry at the Royal Rumble to retain the WHC, and reversals. Reversals EVERYWHERE. I don’t recall much else about this show except that at this point, Matt Hardy and Tatanka were a tag team and faced MNM that night; why they were a tag team is a mystery to me - I’m sure someone reading this remembers and might be able to clarify- but in an age of Two Dudes Thrown Together Is A Tag Team, that’s a strange blend even for me.
Match Of The Day
Kurt Angle vs. Shane McMahon (Street Fight)
King Of The Ring
June 24th, 2001
I chose this as one of the matches to livetweet off of the Best of King Of The Ring DVD compilation, and the prevailing theme here seems to be “No matter what you think of anything else that has happened, Shane McMahon may be the most badass person to ever wrestle for WWE”.
This match might also be better known to some of you, myself included, as the “I thought Shane might have been broken in half” match they used in the Don’t Try This At Home spots for what seems like forever. It still holds up and props to Shane for putting everything he had (his spine, at least a pint of blood) on the line with this match.
Match of the Day
Chris Jericho vs Tazz vs Kurt Angle
WWF European Championship Match
WWF RAW is WAR
March 13th, 2000
While I’m watching this match, all I can think about is how bad I want to play WWF No Mercy again. The way this footage looks, the people involved, Chris Jericho’s triple powerbomb finisher; it all makes me miss this era of the WWE.
Bonus: I love the two run-ins and the bump Angle takes after being thrown from the ring by Jericho. Christ, that looked like it hurt!
