+ Tazz Throws Popcorn onto Jerry Lawler - WWF SmackDown [9/3/2000]
As a way to hype up the match between Tazz and Jerry Lawler at Unforgiven PPV, the “Human Suplex Machine” showed up on SmackDown and took a seat right behind the commentator’s table during a Saturn/Blackman match. While the match for the Hardcore Championship was going on, Tazz heckled Lawler with insults and at one point, hilariously held a sign that read “TAZZ” with an arrow pointed down towards the former ECW World Heavyweight Champion.
Also, bonus appearance of Jim Dotson, Chairman of Protective Services.

+ “World of Wrestling’s ECW Smart Pick of 1999: TAZ” - WOW Magazine [February 2000]
I miss the days when World of Wrestling magazine existed and where FTW stood for “FUCK THE WORLD” as opposed to the less-cooler “FOR THE WIN!”.
Fun Fact: Apparently, both Taz and my mother have tattoos of Hot Stuff the Little Devil. Weird.

Match of the Day

Chris Jericho vs Tazz vs Kurt Angle
WWF European Championship Match
WWF RAW is WAR
March 13th, 2000

While I’m watching this match, all I can think about is how bad I want to play WWF No Mercy again.  The way this footage looks, the people involved, Chris Jericho’s triple powerbomb finisher; it all makes me miss this era of the WWE.

Bonus: I love the two run-ins and the bump Angle takes after being thrown from the ring by Jericho. Christ, that looked like it hurt!

+ ECW Magazine Advert - 1999
In 1999, I was a huge mark for WCW. I used to tape WWF RAW is War/Warzone and watch it later on that night, but for me, WCW Monday Nitro was THE show that I stood by every Monday live. That being said, the fifteen-year-old version of myself always rolled his eyes at the ECW adverts that he saw in his magazines. In fact, I distinctly remembered seeing Extreme Championship Wrestling group as a bunch of desperate nobodies crying out for attention whenever they paid for magazine ads that had the ECW Champ calling out Goldberg or featured something like “TAZ 6:32 - TWICE AS PISSED!”.
Truth is that the fifteen year-old version of myself would have absolutely loved watching ECW as much as the twenty year-old version did, as much as the twenty-five year old version did, and as much as the current twenty-eight year old version STILL does.

Match of the Day

Chris Benoit vs the Tazmaniac
ECW Hardcore TV
October 25th, 1994

For fans of Extreme Championship Wrestling and the Human Suplex Machine, watching this footage might be downright embarrassing. As a matter of fact, it’s eerily similar to seeing video of The Rock when he was all smiles and fucked up hair as Rocky Maivia.

Actually, this version of the Tazmaniac is a bit further removed from the original incarnation as Taz had full make-up whenever he started out. Still, it’s interesting to see the ECW legend wrestling with fur around his singlet and without boots.

WWF Royal Rumble [Arcade, Sega Dreamcast 2000]

I actually owned this one for the Dreamcast, but I don’t really remember all that much about it. The only memories I have regarding this game is the fact that it was the first WWF game to feature Tazz in it, and that assigning Al Snow to help you meant that he could throw a fucking barrel at your opponent.

Game of the Year!

Match of the Day:

Kurt Angle vs Tazz
WWF Royal Rumble
January 23rd, 2000

This will always be my favorite “surprise” debut due to the frenzied fans in the arena. They knew who was coming out. They were BEGGING for the Human Suplex Machine to come out and lay waste to the then-undefeated Kurt Angle.

Such an awesome moment.

Match of the Day:

Sabu vs Taz
ECW Barely Legal
April 13th, 1997

Parts Two, Three and Four

In honor of tonight being the last time anyone wrestles in the ECW Arena, here is a classic match from ECW’s heyday, a brutal grudge match from ECW’s first PPV.

New Jack was banned from the venue following an incident during a Pro Wrestling Xplosion show in September 2006. He famously ordered Sprite at the venue’s concession stand and was instead given 7 Up, prompting him to verbally harass the stand attendant.

With all today’s talk about Jim Johnston, I wanted to upload my favorite track of his.  That heartbeat pulse paired with that guitar riff was just the right amount of swagger needed to get Tazz over, and this theme just has this feel to it that I love.

Everytime this comes on my iPod while I’m at the grocery store, I just want to T-bone suplex a sucker right into a pyramid of Velvetta cheeses.
