R2-D2 and Tommy Dreamer just, you know… hanging out.
Ain’t no thang.
Let this photo of Tommy Dreamer with a Freddy Krueger cosplayer from Monster Mania bring you happiness on this Wednesday.
ECW Invades RAW [1997]
I’ve had this photo in our draft folders for months now, and I’ve completely given up at trying to find out exactly when this photo was taken. I know that ECW wrestlers would regularly have matches on WWF Monday Night RAW around this time, but I’ve never been able to come across a card that featured The Eliminators defending their ECW Tag Team Titles on the show. I’ve got Sabu, Taz, and the Dudley Boyz at WWF RAW; no Eliminators though.
Two fun facts though:
- Perry Saturn actually competed in the World Wrestling Federation as a jobber named Peter Motts. He wrestled against Tatanka and the Legion of Doom in June of 1992.
- WWE.com loves to censor Tommy Dreamer’s ECW shirts. Not only did they take the “F’N” out of his shirt above, but they completely removed his logos in this photo with him vs D-Von Dudley.
Tommy Dreamer vs D-Von Dudley - WWF Monday Night RAW [2/24/1997]
Another photo showing the bizarre ECW Invasion angle that occurred during 1997. In this match, the hardcore icons played it pretty straight for a while until Dreamer pulls a frying pan out as a weapon. The match has Dreamer go over after a DDT through a chair, but he ends up getting wiped out after the match due to a surprise appearance of Buh Buh Rah Dudley and a Dudley Death Drop.
Fun Fact: this photo was found on the WWE website, who decided that Dreamer wearing an “EC F’N W” shirt was a bit much. One quick photoshop later and now he’s wearing a plain black shirt.
ECW Hotline Advert - 1999
$1.99 a minute to hear Joey Styles “shoot from the hip”!?
No, thanks. I think I’d rather talk dirty to Rick Rude over at his hot line.
Raven vs Tommy Dreamer - TNA Hardcore Justice 2010 (The Last Stand) 8/8/2010
Here’s an excellent shot of the two hardcore icons that I couldn’t properly include on my post from earlier this month. You should do yourself a favor and seek out TNA Hardcore Justice 2010, if you ever loved ECW. It’s probably the last proper reunion of the company that you’ll ever see.
[This Day in Wrestling History] Raven vs Tommy Dreamer - TNA Hardcore Justice 2010 (The Last Stand) 8/8/2010
It’s easy to be cynical and roll your eyes at TNA’s attempt to recreate Extreme Championship Wrestling, but this PPV did a damn good job at scratching that ECW itch I tend to get every six months or so. It was fun for the most part (save for the fake Nova and fake Meanie coming to the ring with the real Stevie Richards), and it led to some great shots like that bloody one above. The only thing missing was a Joey Styles to shriek:
“OH MY GOD, DREAMER KILLED HIM! HE KILLED RAVEN!!”
Fun show.
WWE.com has a neat feature up that showcases some of the most memorable “super teams” that have come together to overcome a common foe. The list is a nice read, but I just wanted to point out their main image they created for the article.
Funny to see Dreamer’s ug-mug on there too.
