One of my absolute favorite Hulk Hogan shirts, I wish I had picked one up back in the day.
The Wall Street Journal’s portrait of Hulk Hogan is pretty spot-on, brother.
Bloodied Hulk Hogan Stands Over Vince McMahon - WWE WrestleMania XIX [3/30/2003]
It still blows my mind that Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon had a twenty minute street-fight match at a WrestleMania that wasn’t all that terrible (as far as I can remember). It definitely wasn’t the highlight of the night (Jericho/HBK, Angle/Lesnar), but I loved it because I was convinced that McMahon would win and have Hogan retire from the WWE forever, as the match’s stipulation called for.
Turns out Hogan managed to win and continue to be a thorn in McMahon’s backside on SmackDown as the Mr. America character. The fun thing about this time is that Vince and Hogan were actually really squabbling behind the scenes regarding money and eventually The Hulkster walked away from the WWE altogether (or terminated, depending on who you believe).
The Giant vs. Hulk Hogan - WCW Halloween Havoc [October 29th, 1995]
A nice Giant is holding an exhausted Hulk Hogan who has fallen asleep during his WCW World Heavyweight Championship reign.
That night, The Giant walked home with the belt, a new manager, and Lex Luger as a friend, who joined the Dungeon Of Doom only minutes after the title changed hands due to a disqualification caused by Jimmy Hart. “The Mouth Of The South” later revealed that he had a clause put in the contract that the belt could change hands in such a way.
Fortunately for the rest of the WCW roster, The Giant did not hold the Championship for very long.
[Drop ToeHold says: I love this period of Hulk Hogan’s career because it was so weird. Hogan was completely clean-shaven and started wearing the black tights with lightning bolts down the side that became his signature look in the nWo… but he was still the good guy Hogan during this entire time.
Also a good #WrestleFacts here — this was The Giant’s debut match in WCW.]
The Giant Crushes Hulk Hogan’s Harley-Davison Motocycle with his Monster Truck - WCW Fall Brawl [9/17/1995]
The Giant was a huge thorn at the side of Hulk Hogan at this time as WCW billed him as the real-life son of Andre the Giant who joined the Dungeon of Doom to kill off Hulkamania. Somehow, that act also involved several weeks of The Giant driving his monster truck around everywhere and being a general miscreant… but it did lead to this hilarious moment that took place during the Fall Brawl PRE-SHOW (weird, huh?).
The Giant would make another appearance at the end of the PPV event, only to wring the neck of the Hulkster who was celebrating his War Games victory. This would lead to Hogan donning all black and wearing a neckbrace on television, and the two would eventually meet at Halloween Havoc for a match for the WCW Championship.
Electric Zombie’s Undead Death Match Poster
A close-up of a pretty unique item currently being sold by Electric Zombie that’s a bit of an homage to the 1991 Joe Jusko Royal Rumble piece. Kinda odd to see how the artist swapped in certain people in place of the original guys, but whatevs.
Click over and give them your fifteen dollars for the poster!
Promo of the Day:
The Rock and Hulk Hogan
WWE SmackDown
February 6th, 2003
Building up to the epic rematch between Hogan and the Rock at No Way Out, Rocky cuts a promo in vintage Rock style.. live via satellite. A bit long (about 15 minutes), it features the cocky Hollywood Rock that I love.
