Kenta Kobashi Triple Crown History

Since I posted the 9 hours and change worth of Kobashi’s GHC Heavyweight History, I felt it appropriate and necessary to post this as well. Be warned, it’s ten and a half hours, but here is the match listing in full, provided by YouTube uploader hkkaneWM2012:

Match Of The Day:

Vader(c) vs. Kenta Kobashi
For The AJPW Triple Crown Championship
February 27th, 2000

I was not aware that Kobashi and Vader had a series of matches that are, apparently, all very good. This match is no exception.

What adds to it for me is that the commentary team goes from being reserved and calm to “OH MY GOD WHOEVER LOSES WILL PERISH!”. It’s always fun for me when the excitement of the people calling the match is apparent, and it makes it that much easier for me to get emotionally invested in a match I might not have otherwise given a damn about.

Personally, Kobashi and Misawa is an automatic watch for me, but I see several other matches I’ll have to sit down and watch when I have a moment. Oh, and if you manage all nine hours in one stretch, please let me know; I want to personally congratulate you on being an awesome human being.

Match of the Day:

Kid Kash (c) vs Funaki vs Jamie Noble vs Nunzio vs Paul London vs Gregory Helms
Cruiserweight Open for the Cruiserweight Championship
WWE Royal Rumble
January 29th, 2006

This was a unique cruiserweight open eligible for all former and current champions. The surprise was the last entrant, the recently turned heel Gregory Helms (formerly the Hurricane), who was the only man in the match on the Raw roster.

Keep an eye out for some unique offense, such as Kid Kash’s great Dead Level brainbuster and Helms’ swinging neckbreaker from the top rope.

Match Of The Day:

Elimination Chamber
For The World Heavyweight Championship
Survivor Series
November 17th, 2002

With the Elimination Chamber PPV airing later tonight, I think there’s not a better time to post this - the very first Elimination Chamber, held at Survivor Series ‘02, for the WHC (then held by Triple H).

Things of note: Triple H suffers a throat injury courtesy of Van Dam, Shawn Michaels may or may not have come cosplaying as He-Man (or Robin Hood), Saliva performed Chris Jericho’s entrance (I forgot for a second they were a thing in 2002), and good lord, the sheer size of 2002 Kane was something to behold.

Match of the Day:

The Batiri vs The Throwbacks
CHIKARA Odyssey of the Twelfth Talisman
September 17th, 2011

As a special bonus, have commentary from WWE “Superstar” Kizarny.

Match of the Day:

Meiko Satomura vs Aja Kong
SENDAI GIRLS LIVE
July 9th, 2006

This intense bout was the main event of the first ever Sendai Girls show. Satomura was the booker and trainer for the Sendai Girls and had previously been feuding with Aja Kong throughout her entire career.

Match of the Day:

Christian vs Taka Michinoku (c)
For the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship
WWF Judgment Day: In Your House
October 18th, 1998

Fresh from making his debut less than a month earlier by distracting Edge at Breakdown, Christian made his in-ring debut in this match, challenging Taka Michinoku for his Light Heavyweight Championship. This is a great match. While Christian looks unsurprisingly strong in this debut, it’s a good reminder of how damn good Taka Michinoku was in his prime.

Match of the Day:

El Generico vs. Kenny Omega
For the KO-D Openweight Title
DDT NEVER MIND
December 23, 2012

Kenny Omega - who, to be fair, I only know as a comedy guy - is completely more than that here in his intentions to take the title off Generico. Please note as you watch that Generico can also apparently speak perfect English while in Japan.
