Payback Promo Hints at Heel Turn

It’s purely speculation, but the promo for the WWE PPV Payback features Randy Orton hearing voices in his head. While plans can (and often do) change at the last minute, it is a nice tease that Orton may finally turn heel again.

I just hope it’s as good as his last heel turn.

+ Evolution Promotional Shot [2003]
I’ve always regret tuning out of wrestling altogether after the entire Invasion angle fizzled out. I missed the return of Flair. I missed the WWE debut of Goldberg. I missed the entire rise of the Evolution stable, a group that’s seemingly well loved by everyone who was watching around this time.

WrestleMania Plans

I love when WWE releases several match card photos to indicate a change in plans or swerve the audience. It’s clear from Raw tonight that they’re going with Sheamus, Orton and Show vs the Shield (was there ever really a doubt?), but the above photos show something different.

+ Official WWE Topps Trading Cards [2012]
A look at the six random cards I got from a packet I bought on a whim at Target. I’m not a card collector by any means but seeing how each card’s writeup begins with the phrase “from the pen of Mick Foley” might make me want to hunt down some more:

“Does anyone hold a cup of coffee like David Otunga? I know mine is not a popular opinion, but I am a big-time David Otunga fan. From ultra-serious bodybuilding poses not seen since the days of Superstar Billy Graham, to the bow tie and that ubiquitous, gigantic coffee mug, Otunga seems to have all the pieces that make up a WWE Superstar’s puzzle.
He was also a huge asset in helping me raise $60,000 for RAINN — the ‘cup of coffee with David Otunga’ was just what my fundraiser needed.”

Kinda neat.

+ Evolution Poses - WWE RAW 10/23/2003
Even though I wasn’t watching wrestling all that much around this time, but I still tried to follow Goldberg’s tear through McMahon-Land as much as I could. During his his World Heavyweight Championship match against Shawn Michaels, Batista made his return to RAW by taking out Goldberg and breaking his ankle with a steel chair. As the match was being called as a DQ due to The Animal’s interference, Evolution walked out to the stage to welcome Batista back to their stable and to present him with the $100,000 bounty that Triple H put on Goldberg being taken out.
Also, you’d think that Flair would have eventually found some kneepads that fit during the two hundred years he’s been active.

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin versus Hulk Hogan tops the top 10 fantasy matches that never happened: August 8, 2012

It’ll never happen. Hogan is beyond being healthy enough to wrestle, and Austin likely won’t risk wrestling again (even if it is CM Punk). Other highlights of the list:

- “Macho Man” Randy Savage versus CM Punk (which cannot happen for obvious reasons)

- Legacy versus the Four Horsemen

- Sting versus the Undertaker

- Shawn Michaels versus The Rock.

- Bret “Hitman” Hart versus Kurt Angle

On August 15th, 2004 Randy Orton defeated Chris Benoit for the world title in the main event of SummerSlam, held at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The third-generation superstar pins the champion cleanly at the 20-minute mark, and Benoit gives a tearful Orton a heartfelt handshake after the match.
