+ Evolution Promotional Shot [2003]
I’ve always regret tuning out of wrestling altogether after the entire Invasion angle fizzled out. I missed the return of Flair. I missed the WWE debut of Goldberg. I missed the entire rise of the Evolution stable, a group that’s seemingly well loved by everyone who was watching around this time.

Match Of The Day:

Triple H vs. The Undertaker - No Holds Barred
WrestleMania 27
April 3rd, 2011

This match is notable to me because this was the first (and thus far only) WrestleMania I ever attended. One thing I’ve always heard about WM is that there is a level of spectacle and excitement you can’t get anywhere else in wrestling, and to an extent, that much is true - just check out the entrances for a small glimpse of that.

By the way, this is my favorite Undertaker entrance of all time. Triple H’s ain’t bad either, but… “Ain’t No Grave”? Come on, man. Could there have been a more perfect song for the Undertaker?

(PS: I was on my feet the whole time.)

[Reader Submission - Erle Tompkins] Wrestlemania 29

[Drop ToeHold says: A wonderful work-in-progress submitted by a reader that’ll be even more amazing once it’s finished. You can see the early steps of this piece over here on his Tumblr.]

+ WWF Intercontinental Champion, Hunter Hearst Helmsley [November 1996]
I honestly do not remember that much from this time of the WWF regarding Hunter, expect for these two things:
The WWF Intercontinental Championship went back to the white strap after “Wildman” Marc Mero became the champion
Hunter ended up winning the IC Championship after Mr. Perfect interfered and clocked Mero with a stiff chairshot.
From that point on, Perfect became Hunter’s manager for a brief second before jetting off to Ted Turner’s money over at World Championship Wrestling.
Not much is known about what became of Hunter Hearst Helmsley after 1996.

+ Hunter Hearst-Helmsley and Billy Gunn - WWF Monday Night RAW [12/2/1996]
In the main event of this RAW, the tag team of Helmsley and Gunn took on the duo of Jake “The Snake” Roberts and “Wildman” Marc Mero. Even though these two would later be major factors in D-Generation X, this match was nothing more than a random pairing as Helmsley was feuding with Marc Maro for stealing his valet Sable. Gunn had taken on Maro the week before on RAW, so this was just part of the continuation of that storyline, nothing more.

+ “Iron” Mike Tyson Joins D-Generation X - WWF RAW is WAR [3/2/1998]

In another way to hype up the WrestleMania XIV main event between “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels, the WWF reached out to Mike Tyson to offer him a position as a special guest referee for the match. Austin (naturally) had an issue with this decision and made sure to voice his displeasure by shoving the “Baddest Man on the Planet” live on RAW. Tyson’s role was changed to a special guest enforcer afterward which lead to this moment where “Iron” Mike shocked the world by revealing an alliance with D-Generation X.

+ Just a reminder that WWE ‘13 is out this week, the first game that has the internal fortitude to give you three separate Triple H characters to play as.  I’ll be renting it on Tuesday and will have some sort of impressions after to either convince others of it’s awesomeness or warn everyone away from it.

+ Ultimate Warrior Calmly Holds Up a Terrified Hunter Hearst Helmsley - WWF WrestleMania XII 3/31/1996
A fantastic shot of the ninety-second squash match that was Triple H’s Wrestlemania debut. I’ve looked all over the Internet for a specific quote that I vaguely recall from Hunter about the Warrior, something about how he’d love to set the Warrior’s dried-out feathered mullet ablaze for this match, but I cannot find it. I can only find stories about Trips cutting his hair and a link back to this website showcasing Hunter’s changed attitude about the Warrior (with a photo from this same match).
